Westlake Village, California

Westlake Village is a highly affluent community that is located partly in Ventura County and partly in Los Angeles County. The eastern part, in Los Angeles County, is the incorporated city of Westlake Village while the western part in Ventura County is located within the city of Thousand Oaks. Many residents refer to the entire, combined community as Westlake Village or simply, Westlake. Westlake Lake is a man-made lake located in both counties. Westlake Island is in the center of the lake. Westlake Village is in the central part of the Conejo Valley.

The primary sources of water that feed the lake are two underground wells that receive their flow from a large aquifer. During the rainy season, water runs from Lake Sherwood in Ventura County, to Westlake Lake via Potrero Valley Creek and then to Malibou Lake south of Agoura. Any overflow from Malibou Lake flows into Malibu Creek and eventually into Malibu Lagoon which is part of the Santa Monica Bay and Pacific Ocean. Malibou Lake is not spelled like the name of the creek or city.

Westlake is surrounded by the Santa Monica MountainsAgoura Hills on the east, and Thousand Oaks to the north and west. Lake Sherwood and Malibu are to the south. North Ranch is located at the north end of Westlake. The Triunfo Creek Park and Pentachacta Trail is also in Westlake Village.

In 1975, a group of 40 homeowner associations in the Westlake Village area of Los Angeles and Ventura counties established the Westlake Joint Board of Homeowners Associations, commonly called the Westlake Joint Board. In 1990, the Westlake Joint Board became incorporated as a nonprofit corporation. The board meets regularly to discuss subjects of common interest or concern.
