Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa is a former ranch owned by the Santa Monica National Recreation Area since 1980 and is located at the western edge of the Santa Monica Mountains. Most of the former ranch, including its structures, is exactly the way it was more than 100 years ago. It is a popular starting point for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians wanting to explore Point Mugu State Park and Boney Mountain. The area was home to the Chumash People for over 8,000 years. To reach Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa, take Potrero Road to Pinehill Avenue in Newbury Park.

Satwiwa Native American Indian Cultural Center

The Satwiwa Native American Indian Cultural Center is located at the Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa Ranger Station and is maintained and operated by the park rangers of the Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area. The exhibits and programs have been contributed by the park service, the Chumash People, and the Tongva People.

The Satwiwa Native American Indian Cultural Center and the Chumash Museum and Interpretive Center, not far to the north in Thousand Oaks,  are very worthwhile places to explore for those interested in local history.
