Holmby Hills

Holmby Hills is a highly affluent neighborhood in Westwood which is in the Westside region of Los Angeles adjacent to Beverly Hills on the east and Bel Air on the north. Holmby Hills is made up of large residential estates and is part of the Platinum Triangle. It is only a few minutes from the University of California, Los Angeles and was home to Tongva Indians for more than 8,000 years. The Beverly Hills Historical Society, established in 1984, is a non-profit membership organization whose mission is "to serve as a resource of historical information; to collect, preserve and exhibit relevant memorabilia while promoting an appreciation of the rich history of the City of Beverly Hills." The organization is located at 444 North Roxford Drive in Beverly Hills.

 

Beverly Hills Playhouse

The Beverly Hills Playhouse, founded in 1978, is a popular community theater that also offers acting lessons. The theater is located at 254 S. Robertson in Beverly Hills. Tickets are moderately priced, but the quality of performances is very high.

 

Beverly Park

Beverly Park, which is divided into North Beverly Park and South Beverly Park, is a luxury gated community on the southern edge of the Santa Monica Mountains in the Beverly Hills Post Office area of Los Angeles. The exclusive community covers over 250 acres and includes 71 homes ranging in size from 7,631 square feet to 28,887 square feet. Prices for homes start at over ten million dollars. North Beverly Park and South Beverly Park have separate homeowner associations. Residents of Beverly Park have included Michael Eisner, Kelsey Grammer, Wayne Gretzky, Magic Johnson, Meshulam Riklis, Sylvester Stallone, Ron Tutor, and Denzel Washington.

 

Roxbury Community Center and Memorial Park

Roxbury Community Center and Memorial Park, also known as Roxbury Park, is an eleven acre park in Beverly Hills that features lawn bowling, croquet, basketball, tennis, volleyball, baseball, soccer, several picnic areas, and lots of beautiful green open space. The community room is available to the public on a rental basis. The park is located on Olympic Boulevard at Roxbury in Beverly Hills.

 

Beverly Gardens Park

Beverly Gardens Park, created in 1911, is a 1.9 mile linear park that is the site of the famous 40 foot long, illuminated Beverly Hills sign that has become one of the most photographed locations in Southern California. Beverly Gardens Park is the location of the highly popular Beverly Hills art shows that are held in May and October of each year. Other features include the Electric Fountain at Wilshire, a unique cactus garden, rose garden, walking and jogging paths, and more. Beverly Gardens Park separates the commercial area of Beverly Hills from the residential areas.

 

La Cienega Community Center and Park

La Cienega Community Center and Park is across the street from the La Cienega Tennis Center in Beverly Hills. Facilities include three baseball fields (two of which convert to soccer fields seasonally), a jogging path, outdoor exercise equipment, children's play equipment, picnic tables, barbeques, and plenty of green open space. The park’s community center offers recreational classes for children, adults, and seniors. There is also a preschool program for residents of Beverly Hills.

 

La Cienega Tennis Center

The La Cienega Tennis Center is located in Beverly Hills. There are 16 lighted tennis courts, showers, locker rooms, and a pro-shop offering tennis instruction. Two rooms are available at the center for rent, perfect for meetings and parties. La Cienega Tennis Center is across the street from La Cienega Community Center and Park.

 

Electric Fountain at Wilshire

The famous Electric Fountain at Wilshire is located in Beverly Gardens Park in Beverly Hills. The fountain changes its lighting and water flow every eight minutes. It is quite beautiful and worth seeing.

 

Will Rogers Memorial Park

Will Rogers Memorial Park was established in 1915 in Beverly Hills as Sunset Park. In 1926, entertainer Will Rogers became the first “Honorary Mayor” of Beverly Hills and in 1952 the city renamed the public park Will Rogers Memorial Park. The park is shaped like a triangle bordered by Sunset Boulevard, North Canon Drive and North Beverly Drive. The park is next to the world famous Beverly Hills Hotel. It is quite beautiful and features a pond with fish and turtles, tall palm trees, a large fountain, restrooms, and lots of green open space.

 

Virginia Robinson Gardens - Beverly Hills

The Virginia Robinson Gardens, established in 1911, is the first estate to be established in Beverly Hills. It was the private home of Virginia Robinson and Harry Robinson, heir to Robinsons Department Stores. Today it consists of the botanical gardens and historic Beaux Arts style mansion. The mansion is furnished with antiques and artifacts from all over the world. The gardens and mansion are managed by the County of Los Angeles and are open to the public for Docent Tours by reservation. The Virginia Robinson Gardens was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and is well worth visiting.

 

Greenacres - The Harold Lloyd Estate

The Harold Lloyd Estate, also known as Greenacres, is a 45,000 square foot, 44 room mansion located at 1740 Green Acres Drive in Beverly Hills. It was built in 1928 by Harold Lloyd on 15 acres. It is a privately owned property, listed on the National Register of Historic places used for civic fundraising events and as a filming location.

 

Greystone Mansion

Doheny Mansion

The Greystone Mansion, also known as the Doheny Mansion, was purchased by the city of Beverly Hills in 1965 and became a park in 1971 and is often used for special events. The mansion is a magnificent 46,000 square foot, 55 room residence. At the time it was constructed, it was the most expensive home built in California up to that point in time. In 1976, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The Tudor style mansion, completed in 1928, was once owned by Edward L Doheny who drilled the first successful oil well in Los Angeles.

 

Beverly Grove

Beverly Grove is a small affluent neighborhood that is adjacent to both Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. Beverly Grove is home to the eight story Beverly Center and more than 24,000 people.

 

Benedict Canyon

Benedict Canyon Drive

Benedict Canyon is a ravine and street in the Santa Monica Mountains that connects Sherman Oaks in the San Fernando Valley to Beverly Hills. Some of the most expensive homes in the Los Angeles Basin can be found in Benedict Canyon from its high point at Mulholland Drive, south to Beverly Hills where it meets Sunset Boulevard at the site of the famous Beverly Hills Hotel. Benedict Canyon Drive splits into N. Rodeo Drive and N. Cannon Drive south of Sunset Boulevard.
