Adelanto

A small city about 9 miles north of Victorville in San Bernardino County in the Victor Valley area of the Mojave Desert.

Antelope Acres

An unincorporated community in northern Los Angeles County within the Antelope Valley about 13 miles from downtown Lancaster.

Apple Valley

A small city in the Victor Valley of San Bernardino County located just east of Victorville and Hesperia, and about 35 miles south of Barstow. The community of Lucerne Valley is located to the east.

Baker

A census-designated place located in the Mojave Desert area of San Bernardino County between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

Barstow

A small city in the Mojave Desert of San Bernardino County. The Army's National Training Center and NASA's Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex are located 37 miles to the north at Fort Irwin National Training Center. The Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow is located 3:5 miles to the east.

Blythe

A small city in the Mojave Desert in eastern Riverside County on the Colorado River and the California - Arizona border. It is about midway between Los Angeles and Phoenix.

Bombay Beach

A census-designated place located on the eastern shore of the Salton Sea in Imperial County.

Boron

A census-designated place in Kern County and home to the largest source of borax in the world, discovered in 1925.

California City

A city in the Mojave Desert and the northern Antelope Valley in Kern County. Small in population, it has the third-largest land area of any city in California. Edwards Air Force Base is about 18 miles to the southeast.

Desert Center

A census-designated place in Riverside County located between Indio and Blythe approximately midway between Los Angeles and Phoenix.

Desert Shores

A census-designated place adjacent to Salton City in Imperial County, located on the western shore of the Salton Sea.

Hesperia

A small city in San Bernardino County in Victor Valley and the Mojave Desert about 35 miles north of downtown San Bernadino. Hesperia is the location of Hesperia Lake.

Joshua Tree

A census-designated place in the Mojave Desert in San Bernardino County and home to Joshua Tree National Park. It is adjacent to Twentynine Palms. Yucca Valley, Landers, and the Coachella Valley.

Juniper Hills

An unincorporated community located in the foothills on the northern slope of the San Gabriel Mountains in Los Angeles County facing the Antelope Valley.

Lake Los Angeles

A census-designated place located in the Mojave Desert about 17 miles east of Palmdale in northern Los Angeles County.

Landers

An unincorporated community and former gold mining town located 14 miles north of Yucca Valley in the Mojave Desert of San Bernardino County. Home to the giant rock covering 5,800 square feet and rising to seven stories in height. It is known as the largest free standing bolder in the world.

Lucerne Valley

A census-designated place in the Mojave Desert in the western part of San Bernardino County and east of Victor Valley which includes Victorville, Apple Valley, Adelanto and Hesperia. Big Bear Lake is located about 20 miles to the south.

Mojave Desert

A large semi-arid and desert area that covers large areas of southeastern California and parts of Nevada and Arizona. Cities and regions include Lancaster and Palmdale in the Antelope Valley, Hesperia, Apple Valley, Lucerne Valley, Needles, Adelanto, Newberry Springs, Rosamond, Yucca Valley, Twentynine Palms, Landers, Yermo, Blythe, California City, Barstow, Joshua Tree, Morongo Valley, and Baker.

Morongo Valley

A census-designated area adjacent to Yucca Valley in San Bernardino County on the edge of the Mojave Desert. It is just north of the Coachella Valley and the Riverside County line. Morongo Valley is the location of the Big Morongo Preserve.

Needles

A small city in San Bernardino County in the Mojave Desert located on the western bank of the Colorado River near the California border with Nevada and Arizona.

Newberry Springs

An unincorporated community in the Mojave Desert in San Bernardino County at the foot of the Newberry Mountains and about 20 miles east of Barstow. The area is irrigated by the Mojave Aquifer which is the largest aquifer in the Western United States.

North Shore

A census-designated place located on the northeast shore of the Salton Sea in southeastern Riverside County. Home of the Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge.

Pearblossom

An unincorporated community in the Antelope Valley and Mojave Desert, in the far north end of Los Angeles County. Palmdale is located about 15 miles to the northeast.

Rosamond

An unincorporated community in the Mojave Desert and Kern County, just north of the Los Angeles County line. Palmdale and Lancaster, the two largest cities in the Antelope Valley are to the south. Nearby Edwards Air Force Base is a major source of employment.

Salton City

A census designated place adjacent to Desert Shores in Imperial County located on the western side of the Salton Sea.

Salton Sea Beach

A census-designated place located on the western shore of the Salton Sea, south of Desert Shores and north of Salton City in Imperial County.

Thermal

An unincorporated community in the Coachella Valley region of Riverside County located about 25 miles southeast of Palm Springs and 9.5 miles north of the Salton Sea.

Twentynine Palms or 29 Palms

A small city in the Mojave Desert named for the 29 palm trees discovered there in 1852 and a main entry to Joshua Tree National Park.

Whitewater, Formerly White Water

A census-designated place in Riverside County between Cabazon and Palm Springs. The town is known for the Whitewater River and its trout farm.

Yermo

An unincorporated town in the Mojave Desert and San Bernardino County about 13 miles east of Barstow and just south of the Calico Mountains. Located midway between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

Yucca Valley

An incorporated city in the Mojave Desert and San Bernardino County located about 27 miles north of Palm Springs and 62 miles south of Barstow. Yucca Valley borders the Joshua Tree National Park established in 1994 after being designated as a national monument in 1936. The Twentynine Palms Base (US Marine Corps) is located about 20 miles to the east and is a major source of civilian employment.
