Burbank, California

Burbank is a city at the east end of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County. The city, known as the "Media Capital of the World" is also located just north of Hollywood. It is home to the Bob Hope Airport which is a major airport owned and operated by the Burbank-Glendale Pasadena Airport Authority. Universal City and Studios are to the south. Glendale is to the east. A portion of the community of Toluca Lake is located within the city of Burbank. Neighborhoods in or near Burbank include Burbank Hills, Chandler Park, Downtown Burbank, Magnolia Park McNeil, Northwest District, Rancho Adjacent, Toluca Lake, and Verdugo Viejo.

 

Burbank Equidome

Los Angeles Equestrian Center

The Los Angeles Equestrian Center offers complete boarding facilities and direct access to more than 50 miles of Griffith Park horse trails. The center offers rentals, trainers, horse shows, and other equestrian events. The Burbank Eqidome is a 3,500 seat indoor equestrian arena built in 1982 and located in Burbank, as part of the Los Angeles Equestrian Center (LAEC). The Pasadena Tournament of Roses states its "Equestfest" at the Burbank Equidome at the end of each year to showcase the Pasadena Rose Parade equestrian participants prior to the parade that takes place every New Year's Day.

 

Burbank Rancho Horse Community

Burbank - Glendale Rancho

The Burbank Rancho Horse Community, also known as the Burbank-Glendale Rancho is a 900 home community just north of Griffith Park where owners may keep their horses in their back yards. Owners can ride directly to the equestrian trails in Griffith Park and to the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. The homes were originally constructed in the late 1940s and 1950s and range in size from 1,200 to 1,400 square feet. Most have been modernized over the years.

Burbank is world famous for its Media Center District which is home to major entertainment companies such as Walt Disney, NBC, ABC, Columbia Pictures, The CW, Universal Studios, Warner Bros., and Nickelodeon. The district is a major employment center and tourist destination.

 

Burbank City Hall

Burbank City Hall, built in 1943, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The unique and beautiful structure was designed and constructed in the Moderne or Art Deco style. It has a 77 foot high tower that serves as the main lobby and features extensive art deco detailing, including more than twenty types of marble. Burbank City Hall is home to several large murals painted by artist Hugo Ballin who also painted murals for the Griffith Observatory, the Los Angeles County - USC Medical Center, and the Wilshire Boulevard Temple.

 

Hollywood Burbank Airport

The Hollywood Burbank Airport, established in 1930, also known as Bob Hope Airport and the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport, has two runways and is located in Burbank which is in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County. The public airport is located approximately three miles northwest of downtown Burbank. Annual airport operations exceed 145,000.

Martial Arts History Museum

The Martial Arts History Museum, established in 1999, is the first museum in the United States devoted to the history of martial arts. The museum is located in Burbank which is in the eastern part of the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles County. The museum offers seminars, many exhibits and displays, and showcases numerous artifacts from every Asian culture.

Wildwood Canyon Park

Wildwood Canyon Park, in Burbank, is the location of many outdoor activities organized by the City of Burbank. A hiking trail within the park connects to Verdugo Mountainway which follows the crest of the Verdugo Mountains.

 

Verdugo Park

The City of Burbank owns and operates the Joslyn Adult Center also known as the Burbank Senior Center. The center is designed for active adults that are 55 or older who are interested in day trips, social events, volunteer opportunities, and various senior activities.

 

Burbank Chamber of Commerce

The Burbank Chamber of Commerce serves its member businesses in Burbank and the surrounding San' Fernando Valley communities, including Glendale, North Hollywood and Sun Valley.

 

Burbank Historical Society

Gordon R. Howard Museum

The Gordon R. Howard Museum and the Burbank Historical Society, founded in 1973, occupy the same location in the city of Burbank. The Burbank Historical Society operates the museum which includes an 1887 Victorian house, a memorabilia building including a Lockheed Aviation display and other historical artifacts, a vintage vehicle building, and much more. The museum is open most weekends and by appointment. It is a great place for the entire family.

 

Rancho Cahuenga

Rancho Cahuenga was a 388-acre Mexican land grant made by the governor of Mexico in 1843. The Rancho Cahuenga land grant should not be confused with the nearby Campo de Cahuenga land grant where the Articles of Capitulation were signed ending the Mexican American War in 1847. Rancho Cahuenga is where the city of Burbank is located.

 

McCambridge Recreation Center
McCambridge Park

The McCambridge Recreation Center and Park in Burbank features a gymnasium, karate studio, and several meeting and class rooms for youth and adult recreation classes and programs.

 

Debell Golf Course - Burbank

Debell Golf Course, founded in 1959, is an 18 hole regulation length golf club in Burbank. The course was designed by William F. Bell and features a golf shop, clubhouse and restaurant.

 

Starlight Bowl Amphitheater

The Starlight Bowl Amphitheater, built in 1950, is an amphitheater in Burbank with a seating capacity of 5,000 which includes seats for 3,000 and lawn seating for an additional 2,000. It is located within Stough Canyon Park, near the De Bell Municipal Golf Course. The facility is Burbank's premier outdoor entertainment venue. In addition to offering great performances, the location offers great views of Burbank and the surrounding mountains.

 

Stough Canyon Park

Stough Canyon Park is home to the Stough Canyon Nature Center which has an extensive exhibit hall with information on the local habitat and natural history of the area.

 

Universal City - Universal Studios

Universal City is a community in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles County. Seventy percent is in unincorporated Los Angeles County while thirty percent is in Los Angeles. Universal City is surrounded by the City of Los Angeles and is the location of Universal Studios, one of the largest film studios in the United States. Included in Universal City are the Universal Studios Hollywood theme park, the Universal CityWalk shopping and entertainment center, and the Gibson Amphitheatre. Universal City is located just east of the 101 Freeway, north of Hollywood and south of Burbank and Toluca Lake. Griffith Park is directly to the east. It is a great place for the entire family to visit.

 

Burbank Peak

Burbank Peak is a 1,690 foot peak in the eastern Santa Monica Mountains located adjacent and to the west of Cahuenga Peak which is 1,821 feet high, and west of Mount Lee, which is 1,680 feet high. The views from the peak are truly spectacular.

The Los Angeles River flows through Burbank to the Pacific Ocean.

 

Woodbury University

Woodbury University is a private, accredited non-profit nonsectarian university located on 22.4 acres in Burbank, which is in the east San Fernando Valley. A satellite campus is located in San Diego. The school was founded in 1884 as Woodbury's Business College. The university offers both undergraduate and graduate programs. Courses of study include Business, Accounting, Architecture, Fashion Design, Filmmaking, Graphic Design, Media Technology, and more. Enrollment averages 1,000 students.

 

 

Portal of the Folded Wings Shrine to Aviation

The Portal of the Folded Wings Shrine to Aviation is a 75-foot-tall Spanish/Mission Revival designated structure located in Burbank. The beautiful structure was built in 1924 at the entrance to Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial Park to honor the dead of American Aviation. The structure is marble with mosaic and sculpted figures.

 

Rancho La Providencia

Rancho La Providencia was a 4,064-acre Mexican land grant made by Governor Juan B. Alvarado in 1843. Nearly all of the grant was in present day Burbank, California. In 1867, David Burbank acquired the land along with Rancho Cahuenga, a 388-acre property, and the 4,607-acre Rancho San Rafael. He then combined his holdings into a nearly 9,000 acre cattle ranch.
