West Los Angeles, also referred to as West L.A., is a region within the City of Los Angeles that includes Beverly Glen Boulevard to Sepulveda Boulevard, and Santa Monica Boulevard to Pico Boulevard. West Los Angeles is more affluent than the overall city. "West Los Angeles" is often confused with the "Los Angeles Westside." The two are not the same. The South Bay region of Los Angeles County is to the south of the Westside.

The Los Angeles Westside is a large region in western Los Angeles County that has no official legal definition, but is generally recognized to include the following communities that are in the City of Los Angeles, plus Beverly Hills, Culver City, Marina del Rey, Santa Monica, and West Hollywood:

 

Beverlywood

Beverlywood is an affluent community in the Westside region of Los Angeles with a population exceeding 7,000. Beverlywood is south of Pico Boulevard, east of the Hillcrest Country Club, and west of Robertson Boulevard.

 

Wilshire Corridor

The Wilshire Corridor is the corridor along Wilshire Boulevard between Beverly Hills and Westwood. It is approximately two miles long and is often referred to as the "Golden Mile." The Wilshire Corridor is home to more than thirty luxury mid-rise and high-rise condominium buildings that feature the very best amenities, including incredible city, mountain, and ocean views.

 

Westside Village

Westside Village is a small residential neighborhood on the Westside, in the City of Angeles, in a very desirable location. It is bounded by National Boulevard on the north, Charnock Road on the south, Overland Avenue on the east, and Sepulveda Boulevard on the west. The original single family detached homes, built in 1939, averaged only 900 square feet, had one car garages, and were constructed mostly on 50 x 135 lots. Today, the population of Westside Village exceeds 10,000 people.

 

Del Rey

Del Rey is a community on the Westside of Los Angeles with a population exceeding 33,000. Culver City is to the north, east, and south while Marina del Rey and Venice are to the west. The Del Rey Resident Association is a non-profit, volunteer association of community participants whose goal is to make Del Rey a great neighborhood. The organization is run by an elected board of directors. Meetings are open to the public.

 

Museum of Tolerance

The Museum of Tolerance, established in 1993, is located on the Westside of Los Angeles. The museum and educational center was designed to examine racism in depth with a strong emphasis on  the Holocaust. Anyone interested in world history and human rights must visit this museum. It is the only museum of its kind in the world. Every child and adult in America should visit the Museum of Tolerance.

 

West Los Angeles Regional Public Library

The West Los Angeles Regional Public Library is part of the Los Angeles Public Library System. It includes a children's area, teen area, study rooms, and lots of computers. It is a great place to visit.

 

Skirball Cultural Center

The Skirball Cultural Center, established in 1996, is an educational institution dedicated to promoting Jewish heritage and democratic ideals. The campus, located on the Westside in Brentwood, which is part of Los Angeles, includes a museum, libraries, classrooms, a performing arts center, gardens, and a cafe. The museum was established in 1972 as part of the Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles. It traces the history of the Jews over a period of more than 4,000 years. Memberships help to support the Skirball Cultural Center.

 

Sawtelle Japantown

Sawtelle Japantown, also known as Little Osaka, or Sawtelle is a community in West Los Angeles along Sawtelle Boulevard primarily between Olympic Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard. The area has important Japanese American cultural and historical significance and a large Japanese American Population. The area should not be confused with the much larger Little Tokyo in Downtown Los Angeles. Businesses include Japanese grocery stores, upscale sushi bars, Boba tea shops, several artisan stores, Japanese restaurants, and historic plant nurseries.

 

J. Paul Getty Museum

Getty Center

Getty Villa

The J. Paul Getty Museum, also known as The Getty, consists of the Getty Center in the Brentwood community of Los Angeles af)d the Getty Villa in the Pacific Palisades community of Los Angeles. The J. Paul Getty Museum, established in 1954, is an art museum. The primary campus in Brentwood features Western art from the Middle Ages to the present, while the Getty Villa features art from ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria.

 

Wadsworth Chapel

The Wadsworth Chapel, built in 1900, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the oldest building located on Wilshire Boulevard in the Los Angeles Basin. Wadsworth Chapel is actually two chapels under one roof and is on the site of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center on the Westside of Los Angeles. The chapel is also known as the Catholic-Protestant Chapels. The Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Board described the chapel and other on-site buildings as "the most monumental complex of shingle-type Queen Anne structures ever constructed in the Los Angeles area."

 

Streetcar Depot

The Streetcar Depot is located on the Westside of Los Angeles on the grounds of the Sawtelle Veterans Home. The Depot is a unique building, constructed in the Eastlake style, in 1900 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. The station was once an extension of the Pacific Electric trolley known as the Santa Monica Air Line.

 

Westside Chinese School in Los Angeles

Westside Chinese School, formerly known as The Chinese Language School of Southern California, operates Saturdays at Mar Vista Elementary School in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles. Classes are available for adults and children from kindergarten through high school.

 

West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce

The West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, established in 1945, serves its member businesses in West Los Angeles and the surrounding communities, including Santa Monica, Marina del Rey, Venice, Pacific Palisades, Beverly Hills, and Culver City.

 

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce

The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1888, has more than 1,600 members making it one of the largest chambers in Southern California. Members are based throughout the Los Angeles Basin and beyond.

Los Angeles Country Club

The Los Angeles Country Club, established in 1887, is an exclusive, private golf and country club located on the west side of Los Angeles near Beverly Hills and Holmby Hills. The club features 36 holes, tennis, a beautiful clubhouse, and a fine dining restaurant. President Ronald Reagan was a member. The club is commonly referred to as the LA Country Club.

Hillcrest Country Club

Hillcrest Country Club is a private country club founded in 1920 on the west side of Los Angeles by several local Jews, at a time when Jews were excluded from membership in many organizations, including most golf and country clubs. Located in the Cheviot Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, the 18-hole, PGA Championship club, features a beautiful clubhouse which includes an excellent restaurant and several meeting rooms, tennis courts, and an Olympic-size pool. Hillcrest Country Club has always been open to all groups.
