Torrance

Torrance, incorporated in 1921, is a city in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County. Lawndale and Gardena are to the north, Los Angeles and Lomita are to the east, Redondo Beach and the Pacific Ocean are to the west, and Rolling Hills Estates and Palos Verdes Estates are to the south. Torrance has approximately 1.5 miles of beaches. The city is about 21 miles from Downtown Los Angeles, 20 miles from Santa Monica, and 15 miles from Long Beach.

 

Torrance Municipal Airport

Zamperini Field

Torrance Municipal Airport, now called Zamperini Field, is a city-owned, public airport located about three miles southwest of downtown Torrance in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County. The airport was constructed by the United States Army Air Force in 1943 and was then known as Lomita Flight Strip. It was closed after World War II and later re-opened as Torrance Municipal Airport. The general aviation airport covers 506 acres and is home base for more than 520 aircraft. It is one of the busiest general aviation airports in California and is home to the Western Museum of Flight.

 

Western Museum of Flight

The Western Museum of Flight (WMOF) is an aviation museum located at Torrance Municipal Airport in Torrance, California. WMOF is operated by the Southern California Historical Aviation Foundation. It houses many historic aircraft and photos including a Grumman F-14 Tomcat and a McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet. The museum is open to the public several days each week. It is definitely worth visiting.

 

Torrance Beach

Torrance Beach is a beautiful 1.5 mile white sand beach just south of Redondo Beach. The beach is lifeguard patrolled and has restrooms available, as well as public parking for a fee.

The Strand, also known as the Marvin Braude Bike Trail, is a 22-mile paved bicycle path that runs along the Pacific Ocean shoreline in western Los Angeles County from Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades, south to Torrance.

 

Del Amo Fashion Center - Torrance

Del Amo Fashion Center, located in Torrance, California is a two-level regional shopping mall with seven anchors arid more than 200 stores and services. At 2.6 million square feet, it is one of the largest regional malls in the United States and is one of the largest sources of employment in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County.

 

Columbia Regional Park

Columbia Regional Park is a 52 acre community park in Torrance that features soccer fields, baseball diamonds, and volleyball courts, a fitness course, a children's play area, extensive picnic areas, barbeques, restrooms, and lots of green open space with shade trees.

 

Madrona Marsh Preserve

The Madrona Marsh reserve is a vernal pool or marsh located in Torrance which is in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County. Madrona Marsh is a valuable habitat for many types of birds, reptiles, and small mammals, and is used by EI Camino College as an outdoor biology and botany lab. The City of Torrance operates the Madrona Marsh Nature Center in cooperation with the Friends of the Madrona Marsh. The Madrona Marsh Preserve and nature center are open to the public several days each week.

 

Armed Forces Day Parade

Torrance has been holding on Armed Forces Day Parade each year since 1960. The parade features military vehicles, marching soldiers, and school bands. Attending the annual parade is a great way to honor those who serve the nation.

 

Torrance Cultural Arts Center

The Torrance Cultural, Arts Center us a first-class, multipurpose complex that includes a 502 seat theater, several meeting and banquet rooms, performing arts studios, two large outdoor plazas, and an excellent Japanese garden. The Torrance Cultural Arts Center is absolutely beautiful.
